Dr. Mark Petersen is a neonatologist and neuroscientist who serves as director of the UCSF Neuro-Intensive Care Nursery. He cares for premature and critically ill infants and leads research focused on pioneering treatments for newborn brain injury. Dr. Petersen and his wife, Allison, have been married for over 20 years and are proud parents to four children. Together, they enthusiastically cheer on their kids at countless games and meets, reliving their own “glory days” from the sidelines.
Trisha is a research associate working on the cerebellar development project in the lab. Outside of the lab, you can find her spending time with her dog, reading, playing videogames, or eating.
Caroline is a research associate, whose primary projects in the lab are maternal immune activation and the developing brain, and overactive ACVR1 signaling and myelination. She loves all things biology, from brains to behavior to bugs. In her free time, she picks a banjo, makes art, and hangs with her beloved friends and siblings, most likely outside somewhere pretty.
Dr. Martin Grana is a Neonatal-Perinatal fellow who extended his clinical training to do neuroscience research at the Petersen Lab with support from the Pediatric Scientist Development Program (PSDP). He is passionate about helping improve neurodevelopmental outcomes of premature and critically ill infants. Originally from Lima, Peru, with his (also Peruvian) wife, Alexia, and his only (for now) almost 3-year-old kid, Lorenzo, they enjoy visiting the different parks SF has to offer and exploring the amazing food scene.
David is very passionate about physiology and biology, and the complex systems and functions of the human body. In his free time, he enjoys playing and watching sports, and exploring new places and restaurants in San Francisco.
